We face two crises: a deep global financial crisis, caused by inadequate management of risk in the financial sector; and an even deeper climate crisis, the effects of which may seem more distant but will be determined by the actions we take now.
The scale of risk from climate change is altogether of a different and greater magnitude, as are the consequences of mismanaging or ignoring it. The US, in particular, has a window of opportunity to act on the financial crisis and, at the same time, lay the foundations for a new wave of growth based on the technologies for a low-carbon economy. CHINA - Bejing, Oct 28 - Intel Capital, the global investment arm of Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC), on Tuesday announced its first two cleantech investments in China.
Intel Capital is investing $20 million in Trony Solar Holdings Co., Ltd., a Chinese thin-film solar energy and solution provider. They also signed an agreement, subject to various closing conditions, to invest in NP Holdings Limited (NPH), a technology company focused on massive electricity storage systems for renewable energy and energy efficiency. The amount of the investment was not disclosed.
“These investments demonstrate Intel Capital’s ongoing commitment to investing around the globe and its strategic focus on cleantech,” said Arvind Sodhani, president of Intel Capital and executive vice-president of Intel. “Clean technologies are transforming our world and the landscape of entrepreneurship.” Continua a leggere questo articolo…
European Union is leading on climate change and energy policies, but needs to increase funding for energy research & development, today concentrated (almost 40% of the energy funding) on nuclear fusion, a technology that is only expected to contribute past 2050.
Belgium - Brussels, September 4 - For the first time the IEA has reviewed the energy policies of the European Union which shape the energy use of almost 500 million citizens in 27 EU member countries. “The European Union is a leader of the global action to mitigate climate change through its bold and innovative energy policies”, said Nobuo Tanaka, Executive Director of the IEA, today in Brussels at the press launch of IEA Energy Policies Review: The European Union - 2008. USA - August 25 - The hunt for renewable energy took a turn beneath the earth’s surface over the past week as Google and the Australian government announced multi-million dollar plans to explore geothermal technology.
Google’s philanthropic arm plans to put $10.25 million toward Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) technology. That includes a $6.25 million investment with AltaRock Energy, a $489,521 grant to the Southern Methodist University Geothermal Laboratory, and a $4 million investment in Potter Drilling.
